Sarah stretched herself out as they all got out of Dave’s van. Kell held the pizza, both in hand and in mouth as she devoured a piece of pepperoni and sausage pie, as she wasn’t interested in Sarah’s peppers either. Not that she minded. Meant more for her.

Or, she might think that if she wasn’t busy still staring at the tall apartment building in front of her. The other two girls were eager to head up, with Asa even having a bright-ish mood about what she could do with her room. Of course, she had always hated the small studio apartment they’d been in.

Sarah on the other hand…

Dave stepped beside her, looking up at the place as well as he gently hummed to himself. He then clapped a hand onto Sarah’s back, smiling down at her, something that was admittedly easier for him to do now that she actually was wearing something. “So, miss demon, was this the first place you came to here.”

Sarah shook her head as she put her hands behind her, lacing her fingers into a tight ball as she looked up. “No, I stayed with a cousin that helped me make the transition first, but they didn’t like having me around cramping their style as they put it. This was the first place I could call my own though. I just wish I’d been able to keep it for a little longer…”

Dave gently rubbed her back as he looked around them. They were in probably the worst part of town, where a few weirdos like Sarah and Kell wouldn’t bring attention, but it also meant it was dangerous for them, especially if either one didn’t want to have to use their ‘talents’ to protect themselves. “I wouldn’t miss it. This sort of environment isn’t good for a home.”

Sarah chuckled a little. “Asa told me that when we first got here. That we’d want to look for something better, but… I guess I just never cared. I wanted to simply have a place of my own, you know? Somewhere that I wouldn’t be judged just because I’m a bit nicer than the average demon. Somewhere that I could make sure my friends and I could be happy at, even if I had to work hard to keep it that way.”

“I just wish I hadn’t overreacted to that guy…”

Dave paused for a moment, before patting her on the back. “If I remember right, you said he grabbed your ass? Because if so, than he probably deserved it, and you were too good for the place you were working at if they fired you over it.”

Sarah smiled a little, before wiping at her eyes. “T-To be fair, I did light a curtain on fire when I hit him, and it’s not like I was wearing much. Though, that second part is pretty normal for dancers where I come from, and it seems to be the same for here.”

Dave paused for a few moments before glancing down the street. “Wait, were you dancing at The Long Pole?”

Sarah tilted her head a little. “Yeah, I was as an exotic dancer as they and Asa called it. Why, do you think you ever saw me putting on a show?”

Dave was silent for a moment before asking, in a hushed voice as he pinched the bridge of his nose, “And what do you mean by ‘exotic’?”

“You know, hell dancing! That’s what it reminded me of at least.”

Dave slowly nodded, before dragging his hand down his face and looking up to Asa, who was leaning over the staircase and yelling, “You coming yet, slowpokes?”

He set his jaw firm and followed Sarah silently as they finally began making their way up.
